Following a spate of announcements for its new line of workgroup color devices, Lexmark International announced its new browser-based device management software, Markvision Enterprise.
A web-based tool built on a database-driven foundation, Markvision Enterprise is the vendor’s new generation remote management software that features an intuitive roles-based interface that allows administrators to grant access to users based on individual roles and responsibilities in four specific service areas: Asset Manager, Policies, Service Desk and Event Manager.
According to Lexmark, the new management software helps businesses track, troubleshoot and manage both Lexmark and non-Lexmark devices throughout their lifecycle offering complete visibility into an organization’s fleet of network printers and multifunction devices.
Markvision Enterprise can, reportedly manage thousands of devices with the vendor reporting successful testing of up to 20,000 devices on a single server.
Some features of the four key tools of Markvision Enterprise:
- Asset Manager: discovers devices, collects information from them and allows managers to organize devices into groups to perform searches, schedule tasks and keep track of assets.
- Policies: from a central location, the management software allows managers to configure devices, update settings and ensure that devices remain properly configured over time.
- Service Desk: enables managers to interact with devices in real time for troubleshooting and correcting issues.
- Event Manager: used to intervene when a problem occurs, proactively monitor devices through alerts and launching of automatic actions.
Markvision Enterprise will be available for download from Lexmark in November 2010.
