Lexmark promotes latest RFID solution

Lexmark unveiled the third generation of its Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) solution for the popular Lexmark T654 monochrome laser printer earlier today.

First on the market with an RFID laser printer a few years back, Lexmark has now updated the solution to act as an add-on accessory in place of drawer.  This means: faster printing in RFID mode, RFID tags can be placed either horizontally or vertically, and a larger range of media support is available.

For those new to the term RFID, the solution is a way for retailers and government programs to track items, documents and other assets throughout the supply chain.  Several organizations, including the U.S. Department of Defense, have required RFID tags on all products shipped.

Currently, Lexmark has only one RFID laser printer – the T654 – on the market but their overall RFID solution was voted as the best new RFID technology innovation for 2008 by the RFID Switchboard.

The Lexmark RFID solution has the radio and antenna built directly into the printer option so customers who already own the T654 laser printer can upgrade easily.   The fully configured RFID solution and the standalone RFID Ultra High Frequency technology are available now through Lexmark certified channel partners.

The Lexmark T654n is also available now on the Lexmark website for $1,199.
