Lexmark App Identifies Counterfeit Cartridges

Lexmark International announced the lexmark ID app to help consumers identify counterfeit branded lexmark inkjet cartridges.

The free app, available from the Apple, Blackberry or Android stores, is designed to ensure that the inkjet supplies that customers purchase are genuine Lexmark supply items.

Once the app is installed, users can scan a barcode from the Lexmark box, bag or cartridge and the serial number is sent to a database for instant verification. Lexmark is adding new serial numbers and 2D barcodes to the retail carton, foil bag and the cartridge.

The new Lexmark ID app is designed to protect the Lexmark brand against counterfeit activity and to protect customers, ensuring them that they are purchasing genuine Lexmark supplies.

According to Lexmark, counterfeit cartridges are often of inferior quality, may leak or run out of ink after printing a few pages, or not work at all and potentially damage a printer.

Customers without a smartphone or tablet can get similar verification by visiting Lexmark.com/identify and then entering the serial number from their cartridge.

The lexmark ID app is available for download now.
