In a deal worth approximately $45 million, lexmark International Inc. acquired 12-year old Acuo Technologies, LLC, a market leader in high performance software and services for clinical content management, data migration and vendor neutral archives.
The acquisition enables lexmark to merge Acuo’s products with Perceptive Software, a business unit of lexmark International, to offer a single enterprise-wide access platform for clinical content via any electronic medical record (EMR) system, according to Lexmark.
Perceptive Software builds process and content management software for businesses across industries including healthcare. Last month, Perceptive Software Healthcare Products and Solutions was ranked the top healthcare Document Management and Imaging (DMI) software product, receiving a “Best in KLAS” distinction for 2012 from KLAS Research.
Acuo’s Universal Clinical Platform is vendor neutral archive software foundation that drives improved care delivery through a patient-centric approach by consolidating medial images. The company’s client list includes national governments, university medical centers, and urban and regional acute care centers, most located in North America and Europe.
With the new acquisition, Perceptive Software is able to offer more comprehensive end-to-end solutions that integrate and manage both medical image and document-centric patient information integrated with the EMR.
The Acuo purchase fits handsomely into Lexmark’s restructuring plans announced in mid-2012, which include upping investments on higher value imaging and software solutions to become a key solutions provider to enterprise businesses and organizations, worldwide.
