This week we’ll take a look at two great business notebook deals: the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 14 and its common denominator, the ThinkPad Edge 15. Both notebooks are slanted toward small business and home office consumers who don’t want to sacrifice performance nor spend a bundle on an office notebook.
The Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 14 and Edge 15 are both currently on sale for as low as $499. They are equipped with AMD and Intel Core processors, and if you shop now, you can save up to $615 on select models. The price varies due to processing power, RAM, hard drive space, or the edition of Windows 7 (and can go up depending on other accessories you select in configuration if you decide to customize it from Lenovo’s website). We will mostly look at the models with AMD processors in this article, but the Edge 14 and 15 both have Intel Core i3 and i5 processors available for selection.
The $499 Edge 14 model is built with an AMD Athlon II X2 P340 (at 2.2GHz) dual-core processor while the $526 version has a slightly more powerful CPU, the AMD Turion II X2 Dual-Core P540. Other differences include Windows 7 Home Premium and 320GB of hard drive space for the $499 model, while the $525 model has Windows 7 Professional (both 64-bit) and more hard drive space. Both models have ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 graphics and a 6-cell 2.2Ah Li-Ion battery. Our Edge 14 model was tested in our labs to provide 4 hours and 33 minutes of battery life, although our model came with an Intel Core i3-330M processor.
We were able to find the ThinkPad Edge 15 at an even cheaper price–$470 from Amazon. This particular system is built with a 15.6” anti-glare HD screen, an Athlon II dual-core P340 at 2.20GHz, and 2GB of DDR3 RAM.
If you prefer an Intel processor (Core i3-370M at 2.40GHz, dual-core), check out the Intel model of the Edge 15 for $548.
