The X1 Carbon and its convertible counterpart, the X1 Yoga, are both available with a new display. It supports a very high 500 nits peak brightness. That should be bright enough to view in direct sunlight. The display also supports Dolby Vision for high dynamic range (HDR).

The X1 Carbon has a physical shutter over the webcam on top of the display. This is a welcome feature in business, and should eliminate the sticky notes and tape. The X1 Carbon also has a new microphones that allow you to talk from up to four meters away.

For docking, the X1 Carbon and Yoga have a USB-C port with Thunderbolt 3. For an in-depth look at USB-C, or Type-C, take a look at our feature article.

Lenovo says the X1 Carbon should have up to 15 hours of battery life. Other features of this notebook include available Global LTE-A wireless connectivity and an available IR webcam. The latter will allow for facial recognition with the Windows Hello feature in Windows 10, but it doesn’t have the ThinkShutter feature. Also new is an available 1080p touch display.
