Today Lenovo announced six upcoming ThinkPads powered by second generation Intel Core and Core vPro processors and integrated Intel HD graphics. The lineup includes the ThinkPad T420, T420s, T520, L420, L520 and the W520; and with new ThinkPad notebooks come new ThinkPad features in the categories of power management, audio, video conferencing, and more.

The ThinkPad T420s ($1,330) will stand out for its lighter design and speedier boot-up time with 30 percent less of a wait than previous models. The standard T420 will be known for extended battery life while the W520 mobile workstation will be known for performance. The L Series will round out the new ThinkPads by offering a budget business notebook option.

Lenovo says the ThinkPad T420 will deliver up to 15 hours of power with its standard 9-cell battery and the T420s will last up to 10 hours with the combination of its 6-cell battery and optional bay battery. Lenovo also says the T420 model can also reach up to a crazy 30 hours of battery life with the combination of the optional 9-cell slice battery. As a whole, the T Series and W Series notebooks reach up to 33 percent more battery performance than the last models with discrete graphics.

The included Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 increases processing speeds and works with the Lenovo Turbo Boost+ to keep the CPU temperature in check while helping to acheive longer battery life in the process.

Also included is a noise-cancelling microphone with a private chat and conference call mode-switching option, and an audio capture field that extends out to 360-degrees around the laptop. Lenovo states that the microphone’s noise-cancelling feature will help reduce the tapping noise from the keyboard sometimes heard in the background during video confererencing.

Security is still a major focus for Lenovo with these systems. All of the new ThinkPads will include the option of encrypted hard drives with remote desktop management support and an authentication and fingerprint reader. Coupled with the Intel Anti-Theft technology, this feature will help keep the notebook safe from theft by disallowing access at log-in.

The ThinkPad T, W and L Series will also share the same docking station and battery packs for easier swapping options if the need should arise in the workplace or otherwise.

The ThinkPad line will be available sometime in March from Lenovo and its business partners. Approximate MSRP and specifications are as follows:
