LaCie releases ruggedized 1TB external hard drive

Today LaCie released an update to their rugged line of external hard drives, bumping the bright orange drives up to a maximum capacity of 1TB.

The drives are built with a solid aluminum casing, surrounded with a heavy-duty orange rubber bumper.  To help protect the drive from getting knocked around on the desk, the Rugged XL also includes internal rubber bumpers which soften both impacts and noise.  The aluminum body helps wick away heat, keeping the drive cool.

Fortunately, LaCie made the decision to include both USB2.0 and eSATA accessibility.  Drives are getting bigger and bigger these days, and until USB3.0 rolls around, eSATA is definitely the way to go; no one wants to sit around for an hour waiting for their files to transfer.

The drive will be available soon, with a suggested retail price of $159.99.
