Internet Explorer 8 Better than Rivals at Blocking Malware Sites
Testing company NSS Labs has conducted benchmarks on web browsers and found that Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 8 has better malware-blocking capabilities than any other browser. IE8 successfully blocked 81% of infected sites; Mozilla’s Firefox browser was in a distant second place, blocking only 27% of sites. Apple’s Safari and Google’s Chrome browsers blocked only 21% and 7%, respectively. Opera did especially poor, blocking only 1%.
One reason Microsoft might have done better in the benchmarks is because it has more money to devote to security and other Internet research. IE8 has continued to improve its malware-blocking capabilities, while its rivals have done the opposite.
