Intel to cut CPU prices, introduce more in Q3

The third quarter of this year Intel will cut prices on its current desktop CPUs and introduce several new models.

The 3.0GHz Core 2 Quad Q9650 will be launched at $530 (in 1,000 unit quantities), and the current Q9550 will see a 40% price reduction from $530 to $316. The current Q9450 will be phased out and replaced with the Q9400, a 2.66GHz part to be priced at $266. The Q6700 and Q9300 will also be phased out at the same time. The Q6600 will live on as the only 65nm quad-core left, and see a price reduction from $224 to $203.

In the dual-core arena, the 3.33GHz E8600 will be launched at $266, and the E8300 will be phased out. The E8500 and E8400 will see price reductions to $183 and $163 respectively. The E7300, a 2.66GHz part, will be added to the lineup at $133 and the current E7200 will fall to $113.
