Intel Releases mSATA SSDs for Tablets and Ultraportable Notebooks

Intel has released the latest product in its Solid State Drive (SSD) flash-based storage line, the 310 Series mSATA. The 310 series is just 1/8 the size of a regular SSD, measuring 51mm x 30mm x 5mm and weighs just 10g. It is designed for use in tablets, rigged, low power, and ultra-portable notebooks and other devices.

The 310 uses 34nm NAND flash memory and is available in 40 GB and 80 GB capacities. It supports SATA signals over a PCI-express connector. Intel says the 310 series’ performance is the same as their industry-standard X-25M class full-size SSDs.

The 40 GB model is priced at $99 and the 80 GB $179 in 1,000-unit trays. The 310 series is the first in a wave of SSD products Intel plans to introduce throughout next year.
