Intel Netbook Platform Promises 2 sec Boot

Intel is working on a Linux-based mobile platform named Moblin, which they eventually hope has a two-second boot time. Moblin is aimed at Atom-based devices such as netbooks to improve the Linux user experience. Intel’s Imhad Sousou, director of the Intel Open Source Technology Center, talked about the company’s plans for the platform at the Linux Collaboration Summit in San Francisco.

The Moblin platform is already at the point where the graphics stack takes only a few seconds to start. Sousou said that improving the boot performance will be no easy task.
