Intel Intros New Sandy Bridge Processors
Intel has added several new processors to its current ‘Sandy Bridge’ Core i-series lineup. New models include faster i7 dual- and quad-cores and a faster i7 Extreme Edition.
The following new processors have been introduced:
|Processor||Cores/Threads||CPU Clock||Turbo Boost to…||TDP||Bulk Price|
The Core i7-2960XM is the fastest quad-core mobile CPU on the market, replacing the slightly slower i7-2920XM. Naturally it is also the highest-priced mobile processor available. Due to its high TDP of 55W, it is only available in select notebooks that can handle the extra heat (read: 17.3-inch+ desktop replacements).
The other processors are virtually identical to current processors with only a slight bump in clockspeed. The Celeron B840 is a budget CPU; it lacks hyper-threading and will be found in inexpensive ~$500 notebooks.
Expect to see these processors make an appearance in existing notebooks soon.
