HP starts selling pre-installed linux desktops

HP announced today that it would be offering the HP Compaq dc5850 with SUSE Linux.

While the original mini-note 2133 also came with Linux on board, this marks the offering of Linux on their desktop machines.  We reviewed the dc5850 back in October and found it to be a solid business offering.  Most OEMs now offer at least one desktop with Linux pre-installed, giving buyers a chance to avoid having to pay for a Windows license that they’ll never use.  Whether that’s because they were planning on going open source, already own too many copies of the OS or plan on building a Hackintosh of their very own, more choice is never a bad thing for the consumer.
