HP makes Blackbird 002 slightly more accessible with price drop

HP dropped the price on the Blackbird 002 today, making it possible for gamers everywhere to purchase the high-end machine for as “little” as $1799.

Originally at $1999, the new price is joined by a similar price reduction on the Voodoo Envy 133 notebook.  The case for the Blackbird 002 has always been stylish and functional, and popular enough that HP sold it all on its own for an extremely limited time.

If you’re looking to get one, the base model at $1799 nets you the following specifications:

  • Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.0GHz
  • 2GHz DDR2 RAM @ 1066MHz
  • 320GB 7200RPM HD
  • SuperMulti DVD+/-RW with Lightscribe
  • Radeon HD3870 512MB

The systems ship with Windows Vista Home Premium.  While the $200 discount is definitely nice, the internal specs seem remarkably undewhelming for that much dough.  What do you think?
