HP announced three new series to its popular Laserjet lineup: the single function Pro P1100, Pro P1566/P1606dn series and the multifunction M1130/M1210 series. All three feature HP’s new Smart Install technology, which allows users to “plug and print” in less than two minutes out of the box, no CD required.
The idea behind Smart Install is to allow business to get started printing immediately by simply attaching a USB cable to the printer from a netbook, notebook or desktop computer. HP touts the techonolgy as an industry first, but it seems similar to Samsung’s “plug and play” concept, albeit faster.
The new printer series launched today are also going to feature HP’s new Auto-On technology, which senses activity such as a new job, and awakens the device from Auto-off mode, another HP power saving technology. Both technologies combined help printers from the Laserjet P1100 series to save up to 72% on energy costs compared to the previous generation.
In addition, the Laserjet Pro P1100 series offers wireless functionality, print speeds up to 19 ppm, a standard 150-sheet paper cassette and 10-sheet priority input slot, print resolution up to 600 x 600 dpi and a monthly duty cycle up to 5,000 pages.
The Laserjet Pro P1566/1606dn series features built-in networking, automatic duplexing, print speeds up to 26 ppm, print resolution up to 600 x 600 dpi, a standard 250-sheet paper cassette and 10-sheet priority input slot, and a monthly duty cycle up to 8,000 pages.
The Laserjet Pro M1130/1210 series offers four-in-one devices (print, scan, copy and fax) with print speeds up to 19 ppm, built-in network connectivity, a 35-sheet ADF, a standard 150-sheet paper cassette and a monthly duty cycle up to 8,000 pages.
All of the new printers are Energy Star qualified and use HP LaserJet print cartriges with energy efficient toner for savings up to 35% compared to previous cartridges.
The HP LaserJet Pro P1102w and P1606dn are available on HP.com for $149 and $229.99, respectively. The HP LaserJet Pro P1102 and P1566 are only available in Asia and Europe while the Laserjet Pro M1100/1200 MFP series is slated to be released in May for $149 to $199.
