HP Compaq has silently introduced its latest budget notebook, the CQ62Z series featuring AMD processors. The CQ62Z starts at $379.99 and has the following specifications:

  • 15.6-inch LED-backlit display (1366×768)
  • AMD V-series single-core processor; Athlon II/Turion II/Phenom II dual-core processors; Phenom II triple-core processor
  • ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 graphics; 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon 545v optional
  • Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
  • Up to 4GB DDR3 RAM
  • 250GB – 500GB hard drives (5400RPM or 7200RPM)
  • Wireless N; optional Bluetooth
  • 6-cell Li-ion battery
  • Dimensions: 14.72″ (W) x 9.70″ (D) x 1.25″~1.44″ (H)
  • Weight: 4.85 lbs
  • One-year limited warranty

The most interesting specification is the AMD Phenom II N830 triple-core processor option; it has a 2.1GHz clockspeed and 1.5MB L2 cache. Compare this to the highest-clocked dual-core processor offered, the Phenom II N620 which runs at 2.8GHz and has a 2MB L2 cache. The N830 triple-core is a +$185 option, while the N620 is +$110.
