Fujitsu to Sell Hard Drive Business to Toshiba
Fujitsu today announced it will sell its hard drive business to Toshiba; the company has been trying to sell the business for some time. Fujitsu refused to sell the business to Western Digital after talks fell through in early January.
Fujitsu and Toshiba are expected to complete the transaction this quarter. Fujitsu’s hard drive business will be spun off into a new subsidiary of Toshiba, of which Fujitsu will have a 20% stake in for an unspecified period of time. The acquisition of Fujitsu’s hard drive business gives Toshiba a stronger stand in the notebook hard drive market.
