Finally, Apple G5 PowerBooks and iBooks to Ship Q2 2005?

After over 12 months of somewhat painful speculation as to when Mac users can expect the world’s most powerful portable computer, the wait may soon be over.  Reports have surfaced that Taiwan-based Asustek Computer (who manufactures the Apple iPod) has secured contracts to produce the iBook G5 and ship the new model to Apple in Q2 of 2005.  Even more exciting though is news that Quanta Computer (also of Taiwan) will ship the first PowerBook G5 models.

It is my guess that this information makes a lot of sense based on three important facts:

1. No update to the existing G4 PowerBook line although completely expected was made at MacWorld this week in San Francisco.

2.  The next incredible OS X release dubbed “Tiger” is due to ship in Q2 according to the Apple website.

3.  The next MacWorld Conference and Expo will take place July 11-14 in Boston, MA.  What perfect timing for a big announcement!

Shipping the G5 notebooks preloaded with the new OS makes perfect sense.  As we receive more information, we will post it.  Should the G5 still be unreleased come June, it is a good bet that we will be at MacWorld Boston to report live from the show floor.  Until further updates, Mac Addicts keep your fingers crossed!
