pantherA Server in a Box that can fit in a bag

Ever needed to just pack up and move out fast? Ever tried to do that with your entire office server as well? It’s not easy, often requiring hours or days of work disconnecting, packing, moving and re-setting up the massive machines. If you’re looking for an easier way to move a server setup, though, the new Panther 5SE Mobile Server from Eurocom may be the machine for you.

At 12.1 lbs and featuring a 17.3-inch FHD 1920×1080 screen, this is most definitely NOT something you’d use on your lap, but then again, it’s not really meant to be a take-it-everywhere work machine. Rather, it’s meant to be a full server option for smaller offices with 20-50 users that doesn’t take up much space. Instead of requiring a full server room, the Panther can be moved, transported as carry-on luggage, and set up easily in a new office space, leading to less wasted time during relocation.

The Panther’s all-in-one design with screen, touchpad and keyboard means you can easily set up a whole office without needing any peripherals. With up to 64 GB of RAM, 6 TB of storage and a up to a 12-core Intel Xeon processor, it is very capable of running virtualization protocols and fulfilling many other server needs.

Purchasing options for the Panther 5SE can be found on Eurocom’s website, and the base model starts at $3027 USD.

wdogsOrigin Gearing Up its Customers with More Than Just Gaming Rigs

On Thursday high-end gaming PC OEM Origin announced a new promotion in tandem with Nvidia and Ubisoft. Customers who buy a new gaming desktop or laptop will receive not only a free copy of Ubisoft’s new near-future cyber-action-thriller game Watch Dogs, but also a free EVGA Tegra Note 7 tablet. The pairing may seem odd at first, but it becomes more apparent when you learn that Watch Dogs comes with a tablet-enabled online multiplayer mode. The Android or iOS “ctOS Mobile Companion App” lets a second player control aspects of Watch Dogs’ virtual landscape, allowing them to challenge a player with Watch Dogs on their new Origin PC.

The promotion excludes any of Origin’s ready-to-ship systems, and is for a limited time only, while supplies last. Watch Dogs is rated M and will be available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Xbox Live, Wii U, PS4, PS3, and PSN May 27th.

transcendTranscend JetDrive SSD Upgrade Kits Coming Soon (Johnny Depp not included)

MacBook Air and MacBook Pro users who feel that their computer’s boot times, launch times, or data storage needs aren’t being met are in luck. Online upgrade market Data Memory Systems will be offering the newly announced Transcend JetDrive SSD line in an upgrade package for Mac users.

Transcend drives are designed with photographers, videographers, designers and other power users in mind. The solid state drives will decrease boot and launch times, especially when upgrading from a hard drive, and will feature a 560 MB/s transfer rate. To keep the old drive from going to waste, the upgrade kits from Data Memory Systems will include a drive enclosure for the original SSD or HDD to turn it into a USB 3.0 external storage drive. Transcend drives are available in sizes up to 960 GB.

Interested MacBook users will have to be a bit patient for these new drives to arrive. The Transcend JetDrive SSD will be launching at the end of May, and DMS will be carrying the Transcend 500, 520, and 720 models in their online store within the next few months. No price has been announced for the upgrade kits yet, though DMS has promised competitive pricing.
