E3 2011: Tomb Raider to Get Relaunch, Gritty New Look (trailer inside)

E3 is right around the corner and the news is already flying fast and furious. Crystal Dynamics is looking to key up excitement for one of their latest projects – a complete reboot of the Lara Croft: Tomb Raider franchise. A new preview trailer has already been released for the game, which is being shown off with the working title “Lara Croft Reborn”.

The project takes gamers back to a time when Lara Croft was younger – much younger, and when her adventures were less well-funded and a lot grittier. The preview trailer certainly shows some exciting new looks for the game, but it’s all pre-rendered footage here; there’s no gameplay to drool over.

The good news? Crystal Dynamics (and Square Enix) are looking to explore some of the motivations behind who Lara Croft is – this game is going to be about one of the most popular gaming protagonists finding out who she is.  The bad news? Sorry kids, this title won’t be hitting until late 2012 – at the earliest.

More news will undoubtedly be unveiled next week at E3 in Los Angeles – where we’ll be, bringing you the hottest news of the day. Come back and check out our full coverage.
