Diablo III is undoubtedly shaping up to be one of the most hotly anticipated games…well, ever. Gamers today still get together and slog through massive campaigns of Diablo I and Diablo II; D2 was easily one of the most iconic LAN party games of all time. Good news, then, that Diablo III’s beta stage looks to be coming sooner rather than later.
The artwork to the right was recently uploaded to Blizzard’s Battle.net servers, clearly showing the new hack and slash RPG’s logo as well as the all-telling ‘Beta’ tag at the bottom. All of this comes hot on the heels of news that Blizzard will be holding a secret press conference later this week. MTV is promising that the press event will be all about the soon-to-be-released Diablo III Beta.
More importantly, it’s being circulated that the actual public beta will launch very soon indeed. August 1st is being suggested as the likely date, over ten years since the launch of the series’ predecessor. Blizzard has gone on record previously saying that the final release of the game will come no longer than six months after the release of the beta – meaning we will have Diablo III, and all of the sick days it causes, in our hands by February of 2012.
