It’s always difficult to take companies seriously when they make major announcements on April Fool’s Day, but color us excited.
In a surprise announcement posted to the official Deus Ex Facebook page, someone – whether Eidos or Square Enix, it’s difficult to say – dropped the news that tomorrow would showcase the world premiere of Deus Ex: Human Defiance. Details are as yet nonexistent, but it seems likely that Human Defiance will be a sequel to 2011’s smash hit Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
The news comes three weeks after rumors surfaced suggesting that a new title, Deus Ex: Human Defiance, had been trademarked for a film, not a video game. Square Enix has already trademarked the title, and CBS Films has reportedly registered a domain along the same name.
Many on the Internet speculated that such a film would be based on the Human Revolution title referenced earlier. In comments on the Facebook post, Deus Ex employees have sworn that this title refers to a new game, not a movie; it makes sense, too, considering that it’s been nearly two years since the last title in the series was released.
Our take? We’ll probably find out more about this new game tomorrow, but just because employees are talking about a game doesn’t mean that we won’t see a movie along the same title later down the line.
Stop back tomorrow for more coverage on the news – and whether this is some terrible April Fool’s joke after all.
