Dell shows off new mini PC: the Inspiron Zino HD

At a recent press event in Manhattan, Dell unveiled a number of new products, one of which was the diminutive Inspiron Zino HD.  Clad in glossy black plastic, the name should be giving a hint as to where you might see this little PC end up.

Granted, most of the makeup of the Inspiron Zino HD is still under NDA, which means we can’t talk about who makes what CPU, what speed, what kind of storage it has, etc.  Given the pictures out on the internet, however, we can talk about the outside, so let’s see what all we can learn.

Given the size of a typical VGA or USB port, it’s easy to see that the system itself isn’t very big.  Since it’s obviously going to be compared to the Mac Mini, it’s worth noting that the Inspiron Zino HD looks to be about the same size.  The space between the top of the case and the ports on the back, however, mean that it’s probably going to be a bit thicker. This really feels like what the Dell Studio Hybrid has turned into; I wonder if the Hybrid will continue to be sold alongside the Zino HD.

The name and the presence of an HDMI port on the back can probably steer you in the right direction as to what Dell’s intentions might be.  It’s certainly a nice looking device, and the collection of removable tops just add that much more style.  Prices aren’t quite firmed out yet, but hopefully Dell will keep it affordable, giving the Mac Mini a run for its money.
