Worldwide PC sales results for Q3 2007

Japan had flat growth of PC shipments over Q3 2006. Interestingly NEC is the number one PC vendor in that country, though it’s hard to find an NEC notebook anywhere outside of Japan.

Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) saw large growth in the number of notebooks shipped for Q3 2007. Acer has its core market in this region and that company continued to strengthen its position by increasing sales 60% in the EMEA over Q3 2006.

Asia (not including Japan) is the realm of Lenovo in terms of PC sales. Lenovo was the clear #1 in this region, but HP and Acer are catching up on the Chinese based company. Lenovo was able to grow sales 23% worldwide over Q3 2006.

According to IDC, shipments of PCs should continue to have strong growth going into the end of the year. The only fly in the ointment is component shortages for things like batteries and screens that could force prices higher, but this will likely affect small PC vendors more than the larger companies.
