D-Link Boxee Box Delayed Until November

D-Link’s Boxee-powered Boxee Box has been delayed until November. D-Link and Boxee are joining together in saying that the Box was originally scheduled for release right about now, but that the product schedule was simply too tight to really be achievable.

Avner Ronen, one of the Boxee project’s founders, reported the news on the Boxee.tv blog earlier today.  We got to play with the prototype Boxee Box at CES earlier this year, and the uniquely-shaped device certainly holds some potential.

The Boxee.tv project aims to bring together both web and local video content, combine it with a good TV-oriented web browser, and display the whole shebang in solid 1080p on your HDTV.  While a year ago, that prospect was new and exciting, Boxee can expect to face serious competition in that space by newcomers such as Google, who has partnered with Logitech and several other electronics makers to put their software in the living room.  Boxee definitely has a head start, but delays like this certainly give competitors the chance to catch up.
