Cyber Monday came about when most people still accessed high-speed Internet through their workplace, rather than at home. As a result, online retailers would see a huge spike in traffic and sales on the first workday after Black Friday (which is generally considered to be the first shopping day for Christmas), as customers went back to work.
Hence: Cyber Monday.
