CES2012: Elgato Outs Super Speedy Thunderbolt SSD

by Reads (2,176)

Elgato’s latest storage peripheral might be targeted at Mac users but anyone lucky enough to have a Thunderbolt port should take a look or three (and we’ve seen our share of Thunderbolt-equipped PCs at this CES). The new Thunderbolt SSD pairs high-speed storage with Intel’s even speedier interconnect for a match made in heaven.

The trim new units are clad in charcoal grey and come in either 120GB or 240GB capacities, though you’re definitely going to have to shell out some cash in order to snag one of these little things for yourself. The 120GB model is going to run consumers $420, while the 240GB variant is going to cost an even princelier $700.

Thanks to the higher power carried by the Thunderbolt interconnect, Elgato’s latest SSD only requires a single cable for both powering the device and accessing its data cache. At only 5.2 x 3.3 inches, the new drives should comfortable slip into a pocket if you need to grab your files and get out the door.

Elgato’s sleek and silent new Thunderbolt SSD will be available in February both in retail stores and online.
