Xi3 just sent out news that they’d be showing off, along with Valve Corp., a new beta product designed and optimized for playing Steam titles on your HDTV.

Valve SteamboxXi3 has been showing off their modular line of tiny desktop computers for years now, offering a product that desperately tried to find a niche. Valve and Steam might be just the niche they require, launching the company into fame and fortune, and providing Valve with a ready-made product that they don’t need to spend countless years researching and developing.

We’ll find out more at a press event tonight, where Xi3 will be showing the new platform to the public for the first time. In the press release just sent out, Xi3 seems rather bullish at the prospects, and announced at the same time that Valve made an investment into the company – proof enough that this hardware will be the basis for the upcoming Steam box.

“Today marks the beginning of a new era for Xi3,” said Jason A. Sullivan, founder, President and CEO of Xi3. “This new development stage product will allow users to take full-advantage of their large high-definition TV displays for an amazing computer game experience. As a result, this new system could provide access to thousands of gaming titles through an integrated system that exceeds the capabilities of leading game consoles, but can fit in the palm of your hand.”

We’ll hit the floor tonight and send out more details as we get them.
