by Reads (2,603)

Verbatim today announced the availability of the company’s 2.5-inch SATA SSDs along with upgrade kits with everything needed to install them into a notebook or desktop. Verbatim states the new SSDs provide speedy data transfer rates, faster OS boot-up as well as shut down times, and improved overall system performance. The SSDs are available in SATA II and SATA III.

Since there are no moving parts in SSDs they also provide better dependability, as well as improved shock resistance, better battery life, and won’t make noise in operation.

The SATA II SSDs come in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB storage capacities. Read speeds reach 270MBps and write speeds reach 225MBps. The SATA III interfaced SSDs under the SandForce 2281 controller can reach read and write speeds of over 500MBps and come in 120GB, 240GB and 480GB storage capacities.

The 2.5-inch SSDs can come with or without an upgrade kit for easier installation. The kits come with software for users to copy their entire existing hard drive, named NTI Echo. The software also allows for the copying of their existing operating system without needing to reinstall or update anything. A case to put the old hard drive into is also included; this can be used to turn it into an external hard drive.

More items in the kit:

  • 3.5-inch bay adapter
  • Mount screws
  • Molex power cable for desktops

All of the solid state drives come with a Verbatim 3-year warranty. They are also “S.M.A.R.T. (Self Monitoring and Reporting Technology) capable” and feature TRIM support for Windows 7.
