Canon introduced the next generation in its imagePRESS line at the Graph Expo on Sunday: the imagePRESS C1+, the first color large format printer with clear toner.

The imagePRESS C1+ is being marketed towards the light production and proofing markets and – according to Canon – the clear toner adds a “visual texture treatment that expands design capabilities” by allowing users the flexibility of subtle delicate suggestions, bold creative images or even a security centric watermark.

It features print speeds up to 60 pages per minute in black and white, 40 pages per minute for clear print jobs, image resolution of 1200 x 1200 dpi, a choice of three print controllers and can handle an assortment of print media including coated and textured media.

The imagePRESS C1+ will also offer Canon’s new finishing accessories: the Two-Knife Trimmer-A1 and the Professional Puncher-B1.  These new features enable three-sided trimming and hole punching of eight common die patterns.

Canon is accepting orders now for the $31,500 printer and shipments are set to begin in mid-November, 2008.
