Canon unveiled the new Pixma Pro-1 Professional Inkjet Printer, the first addition to its Pixma Pro lineup in over two years, at their Legends in Imaging event on the eve of the PhotoPlus Expo 2011 held in New York City and, of course, we were there to cover the action.
The Pixma Pro-1 Professional Inkjet Printer is step up from the Canon Pixma Pro9500 Mark II in size, features and price and is being targeted at advanced amateur photographers and professional photographers.
The Pixma Pro-1 will offer a new print system combining a new FINE printhead featuring 12,288 nozzles and a 12 ink tubular delivery pulling from the six motionless ink cartridges on each side allowing for easy cartridge replacement from the front.
Each ink cartridge holds 36 ML, an increase of 157% from the Canon Pixma Pro9500 Mark II‘s 14 ML cartridges. The expanded color gamut focuses on enhanced blacks with 12 Lucia pigment inks shipped with the Pixma Pro-1: Matte Black, Photo Black, Dark Gray, Gray, Light Gray, Photo Cyan, Cyan, Photo Magenta, Magenta, Yellow, Red and the Chroma Optimizer.
The Pixma Pro-1 will increase print speeds by 1.8%, printing a 13 x 19-inch image in four minutes and twenty seconds with a print resolution up to 4800 x 2400 dpi. Enhanced media handling will include two rear feeds as opposed to the front feed we saw on the Canon Pixma Pro9500 Mark II. The top rear tray will hold 20 sheets of paper perfect for glossy media while the manual feed can take one sheet at a time, great for thicker fine art materials. The Pixma Pro-1 will also allow users to connect it via an Ethernet connection, making a Pixma Pro printer available on a network for the first time.
There is a 1-year limited warranty with Instant Exchange Service.
The Canon PIXMA Pro-1 Professional Inkjet Printer will be available in Q4 for the suggested retail price of $999.99.
