The Canon Group and Hewlett-Packard Co. both announced large cash donations to the Haiti relief and recovery efforts after the earthquake that rocked the region earlier in the week.
The Canon Group, which includes Canon U.S.A. Inc., will be making a $220,000 donation through the Red Cross Organization which is currently coordinating efforts to pass out supplies – such as food and clean water – and offer important medial services.
HP announced they will donate $500,000 to the American Red Cross International Response Fund as well as match up to $250,000 in employee donations.
As coverage continues, major news organizations are estimating that there could be 100,000 to 150,000 casualties in the capital alone. As of Friday, the death toll was reported around 13,000, a U.N. official told CNN.com.
