Broadening its relationship with EFI, a digital print solutions and print management solutions provider, Canon U.S.A. is supporting EFI’s direct mobile printing solution for its imageRunner Advance lineup of color and black & white office systems utilizing EFI’s Fiery-based imagePass and ColorPass controllers.

EFI’s direct mobile print technology, which resides on the Fiery controller, enables printing directly from Apple’s iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch devices. EFI’s direct mobile printing offering works together with Apple’s iOS software. With the Fiery-based Canon controller running on the same wireless subnet as the iOS device, Apple users will find the print function automatically enabled on their device and an select a printer on their network to output their documents, according to EFI.

When Apple’s iOS 4.2 update arrived last December for the company’s iPad, iPhone, and iPod, it included the long awaited built-in wireless printing capability, considered by many industry experts are critical functionality for the iPad’s successful adoption into the enterprise market.

The new direct mobile print solution for Canon’s imageRunner Advance devices elevates device functionality beyond traditional wired environments.
