Brother Introduces New Line of Monochrome Lasers

Hot on the heels of Xerox’s announcement of three new desktop monochrome printers, Brother released their own new lineup of monochrome laser printers for small office environments.

Brother’s lineup will consist of nine printers, five single function configurations and four multifunction options. Two of the new printers – the single function HL-6180dw and multifunction MFC-8950dw – are actually completely new additions to Brother’s portfolio while the rest are replacing past generations.

Starting with the single function options, Brother is releasing two series: the HL-5400 and the HL-6100. The HL-5400 will include the HL-5450dn,the HL-5470dw and the HL-5470dwt. All three configurations will offer print speeds up to 40 ppm, a print resolution up to 1200 x 1200 dpi, automatic duplexing, 250-sheet tray with a 50-sheet multipurpose tray, a monthly duty cycle up to 50,000 pages and a 400 MHz processor.The HL-5470dw will offer a standard memory increase – 128 MB over 64 MB on the base HL-5450dn model – as well as standard wireless connectivity and a one line backlit LCD. The top model, the HL-5470dwt will also include a second 500-sheet drawer.

The HL-6100 series will consist of two configurations, the HL-6180dw and the HL-6180dwt. The HL-6180dw, considered the flagship of the single function monochrome lineup, will feature top print speeds at 42 ppm, a print resolution up to 1200 x 1200 dpi, a standard paper capacity of 500 sheets with a 50-sheet multipurpose tray, a monthly duty cycle up to 100,000 pages, a 1-line backlit LCD, 400 MHz processor with 128 MB of memory standard and wireless and wired network connectivity.

The HL-6180dwt will add a second paper drawer standard.

The multifunction units consist of four configurations: the MFC-8710dw, MFC-8910dw, MFC-8950dw and the MFC-8950dwt. All four multifunction models will offer print, scan, copy and fax functionality as well as automatic duplexing and wireless connectivity.

The flagship of the line, the MFC-8950dw, will also offer print speeds up to 42 ppm, duplex scanning, 5-inch color touchscreen with Web Connect and a 500-sheet paper tray.

All of the new models are set to be released in June 2012 with some – the HL-5450dn, HL-5470dw, HL-5470dwt and the HL-6180dw – available now on Brother’s site with store locators. The single function models from from $199.99 starting with the HL-5450dn and top out at $399.99 with the HL-6180dwt. The MFPs start at $399.99 for the MFC-8710dw and top out at $699.99 for the MFC-8950dwt.
