Andrew Kippen, Boxee’s VP of Marketing, has announced an upcoming major update to D-Link’s Boxee Box. The Boxee Box, which has been critically well-received, but a debatable economic success, has had its share of problems since launch.
Version 1.05 is focused on improving the home theater box’s web browser, making it substantially faster. It’s also going to improve the Box’s compatibility with video-centric websites – none were mentioned by name, but Hulu is a likely contender.
The unit’s iPad application is also being prepped for release; while the software update is planned to hit before April, no such timeline has been issued for the iPad. The tablet’s app will stream content from the Boxee Box as well as more closely integrate some of Boxee’s social media features.
