BIOS-Replacing UEFI Gets Shown Off

While the BIOS software that runs most computers has done a good job so far, it’s long past time for its replacement to take hold. The gang over at Swedish website SweClockers managed to get some hands-on time with a UEFI motherboard, and the options it provides over a standard version are striking.

In addition to vast improvements in terms of a graphical interface, UEFI offers the ability to boot to greater than 2TB hard drives, faster boot times and stronger support for modern software and drivers.  As SweClockers points out, UEFI also promises to speed up the computer’s boot times; Phoenix, a company known for BIOS software, has shown that UEFI can start loading an operating system in under two seconds.
