ASUS Touchscreen Eee Top desktops now available

ASUS’ all-in-one Eee Top with a touchscreen display is now available at select retailers.  The Atom-powered machine, which we first mentioned back in November is finally available in America at just under $600.

Units in both black and white are available at Newegg and Amazon, though Amazon offers a much better value; the machine costs thirty dollars less there, once shipping is factored in.  While it’s true that the Eee Top is starting to stretch the boundaries of where the low-powered Atom processor can take computing, it will be interesting to see if the 15.6-inch touchscreen can sway buyers to pay $600 for a fairly underpowered computer (given how much we liked the Mac Mini, however, the irony of this question isn’t lost on us).  Dell may have a hard time convincing customers that their new all-in-one desktop, the Studio One 19, is the better buy, although its higher price tag includes more powerful hardware and optional multitouch capabilities.
