ASUS K53E-B1: Our Deal of the Week

by Reads (6,503)

The ASUS K53E-B1 on Amazon is currently selling for $715; about $75 less than the original MSRP. Even though that’s not a huge price difference, we believe that the combination of its decent specifications, features, and price make this system a great deal. The specs for the Amazon model include 6GB DDR3-1333 dual-channel RAM, Intel Core i5-2410M at 2.3 GHz (Turbo Boost, up to 2.9GHz) processor, Windows 7 Home Premium, and a 640GB hard drive at 5400RPM.

This notebook is rather thin and light for a 15.6-inch multimedia system. It weighs in at 5.72 lbs with the standard battery and measures in at 15.2 x 1.4 x 10.2 inches, with the highest point being about 1.4″ while the notebook is closed. It is made out of mostly aluminum and plastic parts and has a glossy, LED-backlit display with a 1366×768 resolution. We said the display is pretty average for a multimedia notebook at this price range.

The Intel Core i5-2410M processor scored very decently in our synthetic benchmark tests. It scored above the Dell Inspiron 15R and Toshiba Satellite A665, and we said that there shouldn’t be a task that the notebook couldn’t perform well. Interestingly, the K53E also scored above every single system we compared it to in terms of overall PC performance.

The standard battery included with the notebook is a 6-cell lithium-ion battery (10.8V, 52Wh, 5600mAh). In our tests, it was able to deliver exactly 5 hours of unplugged life. This is a good result for a general use and multimedia notebook with a standard battery. We also said the notebook runs “cool and quiet” even while being used extensively.
