The sale notebook comes equipped with an Intel Core i5-2410M dual-core processor, 6GB DDR3 RAM at 1333 MHz, a 640GB capacity hard drive at 5400rpm and Intel HD graphics. We’ve highlighted this notebook as a deal of the week in the past, but we’re showcasing it again because retailers keep offering it at a great price.
In our review of the Asus K53E-B1, we said the main highlights of the system are battery life, performance, build quality, and we also pointed out that it runs “cool and quietly.” In our full review we said the system has really good specs, especially for the price tag — and that the hardware “should be able to tackle nearly any task without breaking a sweat.”
Besides being quite slim and light, its build quality was found to be great–it has an aluminum lid and has likewise for the palm rests, a glossy plastic area surrounding the screen, and a sturdy chassis. The lid is colored dark gray, and the bottom of the notebook is home to a smooth, textured finish. The port selection includes a 5-in-1 media card reader, USB 2.0 x3, VGA, HDMI, Ethernet, and DVD RW/DVD-RAM.
The Asus K53E has a full-sized keyboard with flat, squared keys. We said typing on the system should not be a problem and that not much sound is made when the keys are pressed. The touchpad is a smooth matte surface and there is a separate numeric keypad on the right side.
As far as performance goes, the K53E should not have any problems both executing multimedia and multi-tasking. Because of its graphics card, though, it will not be able to play many types of games. However, it out-performed the popular Dell Inspiron 15R in our processor benchmark and likewise the Sony VAIO F in overall system performance (PCMark05). The 6-cell 52Wh battery equipped in our review unit lasted for about five hours during our standard battery life test.
