IMGP0629Asus Chairman Jonney Shih showcased a number of new products on stage at Computex 2014 today, but two of the updates to existing laptop lines really highlight the company’s focus on delivering products that are thinner and lighter for the premium market.

The all new Asus Transformer Book T300 Chi gets its name from the Chinese concept of Chi which literally means “air” or “breath” but is also a concept that refers to the flow of energy in all things. This new Transformer Book is not an update to the budget T100 but is a premium, high-performance detachable notebook that comes with the world’s thinnest 12.5-inch tablet display.

Transformer Book T300 ChiChairman Shih mentioned “ultimate professionals” several times while talking about the T300 Chi and the fact that this hybrid notebook with detachable tablet is just 7.3mm thick illustrates that premium target market. The Transformer Book T300 Chi features a fanless 2-in-1 design powered by Intel’s next-generation, high-performance, low-power processor based on the Core micro-architecture.

The new Transformer Book T300 Chi also features 4G LTE support and is equipped with a 2560 x 1440 WQHD IPS display … a significant step up from the low-res screen on the T100.

The Asus Zenbook NX500 is a new Ultrabook that combines a slim aluminum unibody construction with up to an Intel Core i7 quad-core processor and up to NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M graphics with 2GB of GDDR5 video memory. The NX500 also feature top-of-the-line storage and wireless thanks to SATA 3 RAID 0 or PCIe x4 SSDs and Broadcom 3-stream 802.11ac Wi-Fi for faster speeds whether you’re starting Windows or downloading an important file from the internet.

ASUS ZENBOOK NX500_PR01As the first Asus notebook with a 4K/UHD display with VisualMaster technology, the Zenbook NX500 comes ready to support future 4K video content. In the meantime, the 15.6-inch 3840 x 2160 resolution IPS panel provides a large workspace for putting multiple applications side by side to increase productivity. The display also delivers a wide color gamut (100% NTSC/108% Adobe RGB) with factory-calibrated color temperature for the color-critical workflows demanded by photographers and other artists as well as design professionals.

The Zenbook NX500 also features titanium-film speakers and SonicMaster audio technology for quality sound.

Pricing for the new Transformer Book T300 Chi and the Zenbook NX500 is not currently available but we can speculate both products will feature price tags in line with their “premium” features and target audience.
