CES 2018 – Asus has announced what it’s calling the thinnest convertible notebook with a dedicated Nvidia GPU, the ZenBook Flip 14 (UX461). Launched earlier in 2017, it’s only now becoming available in the United States.
This convertible has a 14-inch display and is just 0.55 inches thin. It weighs 3.3 pounds, making it of average weight for a notebook this size. The ZenBook Flip 14 will be available in two colors: gold and gray.
ZenBook Flip 14 Technical Specifications
Inside the ZenBook Flip 14’s thin shell is an Intel Core i7-8550U quad-core processor and an Nvidia GeForce MX150 GPU. Although not a gaming notebook, the ZenBook Flip 14 should be able to handle some of today’s titles. (Note this convertible will also be offered without dedicated graphics, so be sure to get the Nvidia GPU if you want to play games.) Asus says the ZenBook Flip 14 will be available with up to 16GB of memory and a 512GB solid-state drive (SSD). The company claims a battery life of up to 13 hours, which is good for a convertible notebook.
The 14-inch display on this convertible has a 1080p (1,920×1,080-pixel) resolution and touch support. It should be fairly colorful thanks to a claimed 72 percent NTSC gamut coverage. The “NanoEdge” design on the display keeps the bezel to just 7.2 millimeters.
It’s notable that the ZenBook Flip 14 includes an active stylus with 1,024 pressure levels. Other notable features of this notebook are its Harman/Kardon speakers and two-channel amplifier, two USB-A 3.1 ports, and a MicroSD card slot. It also has a USB-C port. This notebook should have good battery life thanks to its large 57 watt-hour battery. It has a fast charging feature that claims up to a 60 percent charge in just 49 minutes. Last, the ZenBook Flip 14 supports Windows Hello biometric logins with its built-in fingerprint reader.
