Apple may have launched their new line of desktops some weeks back, but their highest-end configurations haven’t been available until now. The new iMacs are marked by the availability of a model with an incredible 27-inch IPS display and quad-core Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors.
At launch, the 27-inch model was available, but only in configurations that included the lower-end Core 2 Duo line of dual-core processors. Apple says that users who opt for the pricier quad-core configs can expect something like 2.4x the performance over their dual-core counterparts. While the iMac is available for a starting price of $1199 (barring any available discounts), consumers that buy the 27-inch quad-core model can expect to pay at least $1999. As always, Apple’s prices are an endless source of controversy, but considering the prices of respective components, such as a high-end IPS display, Core i5 desktop, midrange video card and its sheer powerful style – it’s no surprise that people are buying them.
