Despite being as enthusiastic about technology as anyone else, DTR is starting to become a bit tired out with all the processor news. Arguably the most important bits of circuitry inside of a computer, these chips are getting to be more and more advanced…as well as more and more expensive.
Provantage seems to have jumped the gun…just a bit, and offered up some info on the juicy twelve-core server-oriented CPUs. Not expected available for some time just yet, Provantage lists the CPUs for wildly varying prices – there’s an 8-core Magny-Cours (the microarchitecture codename) running at 2GHz currently listed at just $290.90, which seems almost absurdly inexpensive. There’s also some twelve-core CPUs listed at over $1200, which is more like it – but still a little cheap, it seems, for what you get.
Obviously these CPUs are coming, and coming soon, but there’s no telling quite yet just how many of these details are right. At least Provantage isn’t actually selling the CPUs just yet; all of them list SOLD OUT as their availability.
