AMD held a tech event in Asia this past week to show off some of its current and upcoming CPU and GPU technologies. The biggest surprise of the show came when Matt Skynner, VP and General Manager of AMD’s GPU division, waved around the unreleased AMD Radeon HD 6990 – AMD/ATI’s most powerful (and possibly biggest) video card ever.
Price? Specs? Hardware?
Keep guessing, because AMD is holding mum on getting into specifics. The reference design showed off one DVI-I port as well as four mini-DisplayPort outputs, continuing that chipmaker’s Eyefinity trend.
Aside from its dual-GPU heritage, the only solid details about the card were that it took one 6-pin and 8-pin power connector, proving, possibly, that GPU companies have learned their lesson about obscene power draws.
The card is reportedly set to ship sometime before the end of Q1 2011.
