The next 10.1-inch Amazon tablet will have a higher-resolution display than its predecessors, more storage, and a lower price. Plus, it will function like an Amazon Echo, allowing users to easily talk to the Alexa digital assistant.

The next Fire HD 10 will be this company’s flagship tablet, even though its only mid-size. The 10.1-inch screen will have a 1920 x 1200 resolution, giving it 224 pixels per inch.  Amazon is promising that the 1.8 GHz quad-core processor will make this device 30% faster than its immediate predecessor. And buyers will have a choice between 32 GB and 64 GB of storage. Another new feature is dual Dolby Atmos speakers.

As with all Fire tablets, this will run a modified version of the Android operating system. Virtually all the modifications are designed to tie the device more closely to Amazon’s services, so all apps, books, videos, etc are purchased from this retailer, and there’s no access to the Google Play Store.

Consumer-oriented mobile devices usually come in a range of colors, and the next Fire HD 10 is no exception; shoppers will be able to choose from blue, blue, and red casing.

Alexa Hands-Free

What will probably be the breakout feature for this upcoming tablet is hands-free access to Alexa. Other Amazon tablets, like the Fire 7 and Fire HD 8,  can access this service but require pressing and holding a button to activate it.

By contrast, just saying “Alexa” while near a 2017 version of the Fire HD 10 will be enough to get the device ready to take voice commands. The service can launch an app, read the news or an audio book aloud, answer questions, get traffic and weather reports, set alarms, and more.

In short, the tablet will function like a portable Amazon Echo Show, plus all the features of a tablet.
