Altec Lansing revealed both a new logo and a new set of desktop computer speakers with the ‘expressionist BASS’ series. The urbane new speakers feature 1-1/2″ drivers in the top of each cone to generate the mid and high frequencies. Power and volume are controlled via buttons on top of the left speaker.
What’s interesting about these speakers, however, aside from their new contemporary stylings, is that Altec Lansing has managed to put a 2.1 speaker system into just two speakers.
The bottom of each unit features a 4″ long-throw subwoofer, negating the need for a separate unit. The new ‘expressionist BASS’ has a total continuous power rating of 25 Watts RMS.
There is also a 3.5mm audio-in jack to enable the direct connection of an mp3 player or other digital audio device.
The speakers are expected to go on sale in October with an MSRP of $129.95. Pictures on Altec Lansing’s website suggest that they’ll be available in both black with a black base and white with a clear base.
