Alienware M18x Owners Experiencing Windows Aero Issues

Alienware M18x owners in our forums are reporting issues with how their notebooks render the transparent Windows Aero interface, which made its debut with Windows Vista.

The M18x has an issue that causes Windows to randomly lose its ability to maintain the Aero interface and thus switch back to the Windows Basic interface. The exact cause of the issue is unknown, however the problem exists regardless of hardware configuration (such as the processor, graphics card, and so on). M18x owners have noted the problem manifests from a cold boot, a restart, randomly on the desktop, while playing a game, or while running a graphical benchmark such as Futuremark 3DMark 06. It has resulted in BSODs and random shutdowns.

The issue was first realized earlier this summer; currently there is no fix for the issue. We’ll be posting updates as the story unfolds.
