ADATA took the wraps off of its latest line of external hard drives today with the release of the new NH03. Clad in an attractive housing, the NH03 adds USB 3.0 to ADATA’s lineup.
ADATA claims that “real-world test results” show transfer speeds of up to 140MB/s. This is pretty unusual, considering that most hard drives (as opposed to solid state drives, or SSDs) fall somewhere south of that number; built-in TurboHDD software is claimed to be responsible for the speedup. Regardless, ADATA says that users can expect performance gains of up to 400% over USB 2.0 external hard drives. Finally, it’s an external drive that’s essentially as fast as any internal hard drive out there.
In addition to the new design and USB 3.0, ADATA includes 256-bit AES encryption as well as a number of software options (think Norton AV) – following the trend they started earlier in the year, however, none of that software is on the drive itself; instead purchasers can download it from their website later on. The drives currently come with a 3-year warranty and available soon in storage densities of up to 2TB.
