Acer’s New Android PC Uses Intel Haswell
According to C|Net, Acer is set to show off an all new all-in-one PC next week that might have Microsoft running for the phones. It’ll come with a next-generation ‘Haswell’ Intel Core i5-4430 CPU, running at 3GHz, 1GB of RAM and 8+ GB of storage, with more expandable through memory cards and USB ports.
The kicker? The new unit will run Android exclusively, with no version of Windows anywhere. Presumably, primary control will be done via a 22-inch touchscreen, though it’s likely that Acer will include a wireless keyboard and mouse in the box. Despite the low RAM levels, the new Acer BDDA22OHQL should absolutely scream – it’s coming with a full-on dual-core Intel Core i5 CPU, after all – not the more frugal, yet less powerful ARM chips that ship with the majority of Android-powered devices.
How much would an all-in-one with those specs go for, when you don’t have to pay the Microsoft tax? Not much, as it turns out. Looking around online we found that some resellers have already listed the machine at just under $400, with most of the Amazon crew selling it around $440.
